EARLY morning 26th July...
NEW FORUMS Created...
1:30 am and decided to get a few posts
done. Cant sleep, could be all the caffeine, could be
all the noise, could just be the weather. *shrug*
Been playing around with Forums today.
Instead of having just 1, now we have 4! And if we need
more I can quite easily set them up. The 4 forums we now
have (all easily accessible from the menu) are:

Subgroups continue to grow...
Very soon (over the next couple of days) there
will be a host of NEW Member created subgroups.
Subgroups planned will include various groups for the number
of CPUs you are crunching with (so you can compete against
members with similar hardware) and a great new group that will
be opened by David B Briggs... keep watching that space!

Member creatable subgroups (or "Virtual Teams") a
INSTANT hit...
Busy busy busy day for me today... with a
presentation at Uni that went quite well I think.
Member Created Subgroups are a BIG hit, with
many members checking them out and getting into the fun.
If you go and have a look again right now you will notice TWO
NEW subgroups that have been started up! The
"Corowa High School" subgroup and "The
Synergistic Reporters"...
Well worth a look! Go here "Member

subgroup of your own!
Random news...
Some of you may have noticed 2 things today
-
SETI data servers were down for a short
time. They had the reason up on their official site,
but the problem is all resolved.
-
SETI Synergy site was down for a short
time as well! (drama)... here is what I heard about the
situation:
At approximately 2pm(PST), 07/23 US time, 7am(AEST) 24/07 AU time,
the air-conditioning system at the data center in the Mae-West
building, San Jose, failed. Over a period of time, the rising
temperature started to affect system stability and the servers were
shut-down to maintain data integrity and prevent any hardware damage.
The air-conditioning system is maintained by the building management
and their technicians were involved in restoring operations over a
period of five hours.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused and the building management
ensures us that they have rectified the problem and have implemented
additional measures to reduce the risk of this event occurring in the
future.

if you have any further questions.

New Section at our site!!!
Member creatable subgroups (or "Virtual Teams")
Yep not much of an update today cause time is
a bit lacking, but I have put in a VERY nice thing that many
people have been waiting for. In the Subgroups menu you
will notice "Synergy - Member Created".
This hot little feature allows members that have a special
group of people they crunch with to create their very own
Subgroup and have all those members that belong listed, ranked
etc just like you had your very own SETI team!
There are only 2 subgroups at the moment, one
for members who have posted over 100 times at our Forum, and
the other called "I.C.U. (Independant Computer Users)"
which was created and set up for Arutha as MANY of our latest
members are from there (thanks to Arutha for testing this new
feature)
To learn more about it go here "Member
Created Subgroups". You can even start submitting
for your very own subgroup!
More updates tomorrow when hopefully I have a
bit more time.

300,000 WORK UNITS DOWN!
Are we 100% sure weekend days are the same length as week
days?
Amazing, Sunday afternoon already and I swear
the weekend just started! I think there is a global
conspiracy where ALL clocks around the world tick faster on
weekends! *grin*
The big news of the day is we SMASHED past
300,000 Work units! A GREAT effort I am sure you will
all agree. Each member, each work unit helps in that
total... so a BIG thankyou to you all.
A FREAKY but very interesting fact about
today's update... we now have a 2nd Mark Weinsheimer in our
team! Could this be the same person, a clone or a ALIEN
in disguise?
The updates will now be continued AS
promised... and will be going for a while so check back often

NEW VERSION OF SETI SPY Available!
(NOTE: Leaving this news in
current one as it is kind of important people upgrade if
running SETI Spy!)
A MUST for all those people running SETI Spy
(and I highly recommend it!). For those that don't know
it tracks so many stats, both personal, sky maps, returned
results that SETI will have to look into further, CPU speed
comparisons and MUCH MUCH more. Also gives you nice
little Gaussian GIFs that you can submit to our Gaussian
tables!
New version is 3.1.1 and mainly fixes the User
Stats section after SETI changed their cgi bin to fcgi.
A big thanks to Roelof for making the changes even though it
is not really currently ACTIVELY being developed
anymore. Interestingly his site is nearly at 1 MILLION
hits... and this is probably the most popular and used SETI
addon around. To download the latest version

week. Bic Wood (396 Wus) left for "University of Texas at Austin"

(85 WUs) also headed off into the big wide world of SETI
teams. I still hate seeing people leave, but you HAVE to
find what does it for you in a SETI team!
Of course we do get a LOT more members than we
lose, and looking at other teams we have one of the LOWEST team
leaving stats!

WE HAVE A WINNER! The winning entry in the BANNER Comp
is...
An AMAZING competition, and the most stand out
thing to me was the CLOSENESS of the votes. It really does
show that ALL the entries were of such a high standard, and that
everyone in our team has slightly a different picture in their
own mind of what we are about. A GREAT competition, so
great in fact that I already have the next competition in mind
(but will wait a while before we get it rolling!)
A big congratulations to Ffenliv! The
winning banner, which will be displayed here on our site 50%
the time (other 50% shard between other 16 banners), PLUS he
gets 1 weeks worth of crunching from a P 4 1.8 GHz
machine!!! A very warm thankyou to Wyzzard for donating
one of his machines for the prize.
Also a big thankyou and congratulations to all
other banner entrants! The are ALL great, SO many
members wrote saying how hard it was to chose... it is a pity
we can only have one winner.

cause so many people are interested. Everyone got

OUTAGE NOTICE. On 7/16/2002 there will be some maintenance work
performed along our network path to the PAIX, where Cogent picks
us up. This work will be done between 10:00 and 14:00 UT. Within
this window there will likely be a 30 to 90 minute data server
connectivity outage.

A BIG DAY for SETI Synergy with now
members from 40 countries!
A great day today, with another milestone for
our team. AI_angelic joined, and they are our first
member from JAPAN! With members from 40 countries we
would have to be one of the most multicultural teams in the
whole of SETI!
Also you may have noticed some little
statistics pop up there today (in the coloumn on the left
above the date). A nice handy little stats thing that
you can quickly look at, and also how many work units til we
hit the TOP 100!

Time to start voting for our WINNING
BANNER!
Redchip got a banner in JUST in the nick of
time, taking our tally of banners to ! It is time to start
the voting for our winning banner, which will be displayed 50%
of the time here at our site on our pages. Note ALL other
banners still are displayed, it is just the winner is displayed
more!
Voting poses a bit of a dilemma... how to show
everyone the banners so they can vote. Well I have posted
ALL the banners at our Forum at this
LINK. There you will
see each banner has been assigned in a random order a VOTING
NUMBER. To vote, all you have to do is chose WHICH
THREE you like best and email me at upto0018@flinders.edu.au
the three corresponding numbers.
Voting will run until Next Monday, at which time
we will have our winner of the great prize of 1 week of
crunching on a WONDERFUL 1.8 GHz+ machine donated by Wyzzard!

Very very nice! Another 20 members in the last 10
days... goes to show that members love what we have going on
here. Many of them had "M" profiles, and finally
I have started reading through the "Other" Profiles...
of which there seems to be BILLIONS! May take me a while
to read and send emails to the non membered "Other's"
Another great week for new members.
Again we had another member from a new country, taking our
tally to 39 countries world wide! Our FORUM
board is getting a work out as well, with many members posting
there each day, talking with people from all around the world,
asking SETI and non SETI things. Even a fun few polls
(one of which was about blowing your nose!)
