Web Site Upgrade - We are working on updating the web site to a newer version, which we hope to have done by months end. The upgrade should make it easier to find your user id, server status, etc.

2/08/05 -  A quick update: Things are finally running relatively smoothly with the new version of mfold. I'll be cranking out t0212E_1 workunits for the next week or so, a high contact order structure for which we failed to sample a native-like structure. Meanwhile, I'll be working on improving/fixing the percent complete reporting for the mfold application and also testing distribution of the CHARMM application.

We have moved the primary database service over to the the new system. See Technical News (below).

We have moved the primary database service over to the the new server. Everything is looking good at this point. The new machine is currently very under utilized which is good - we are going to grow a lot!

The new system consists of a Sun v40z opteron with 2 1.8GHz processors and 8GB RAM, connected to a Sun 3510 fibre channel storage array. The latter was donated by Sun. As the needs of the project increase we can add 2 additional CPUs and take RAM up to 32GB.

The old database server is now a replica that will be used for backups and administrative queries.

Once we switch over, it may be impossible to switch back (as it will be much faster than our current database server). So we're being extra cautious, adding queries one by one and checking their success. We have no set time for the transition, but barring any catastrophe it should be any day now.

New applications are now available for Windows (4.75) Linux (4.76) and Mac (4.77). These should resolve the 'hanging workunit' problems described below. They also incorporate several other fixes and improvements. NOTE: if you start to experience 'download' related errors, be SURE to upgrade your (public) BOINC core client to version 4.19 or your (experimental) BOINC core client to version 4.59 or greater..

The LIGO Scientific Collaboration Calibration Team has released the final (v3) calibration information for the S3 data run. In the next several days we will be replacing our current search data set (which uses the v2 calibration) with the v3 version.

The initial migration of the database to the new server is complete. Tomorrow we will make this new server a database replica. If all goes well it will become the database primary in a few days.

We will restart the database migration to the new hardware Monday, January 7, at 18:00 UT. The outage will be several hours long. Currently, workunit production is falling behind demand. The splitters themselves are able to keep up but are not able to insert work fast enough because of competition for database access.
