WU: OPM995 simulations
27 May 2016 | 8:54:11 UTC
Here we go again :) This time with 33% more credits + corrected runtimes which means an additional 2x credit for WUs which take more than 18 hours on a 780 and only WUs which take up to a max of 24 hours on a 780. I hope I don't seriously overshoot on credits this time but it's really a bit hit & miss.

Behind the Scenes: World Community Grid Goes to the Webby Awards
27 May 2016, 20:09:43 UTC
On May 16, I had the extreme honor of representing World Community Grid at the 20th Annual Webby Awards. Our team, Al Seippel, Caitlin Larkin, Erika Tuttle, Jonathan Armstrong, Juan Hindo, Keith Uplinger, Kevin Reed, Sophia Tu, and Viktors Berstis, was nominated under the Corporate Social Responsibility category. We submitted the new sign-up process which was created by a talented group of IBM design interns. We won the People Voice award in our category, beating out other companies like Tumblr and MTV.
To accept the award, every winner is allowed to give a 5-word speech. Since we were voted in by the public and World Community Grid volunteers, we invited World Community Grid members to come up with suggestions for our speech. Nearly 500 people responded, with so many creative ideas that we had a difficult time making a choice. The World Community Grid team discussed the options, then voted for the winning speech and made some tweaks to it. Eventually, the speech we settled on was "Let your computer daydream science." We chose this because it was playful, yet descriptive of what we do and had a clear call to action. (After we settled on the final speech, we realized that the original suggestion had come from Stefano Forli, one of the researchers for the Fight AIDS@Home project.)
Very few Webby Award winners actually get to go up onstage to give their acceptance speeches, so most groups record their speeches ahead of time. We recorded our speech at the Webby's corporate offices the day before the award ceremony. We dressed up in lab coats and had other props to help make our video more memorable.
The following evening was the big award ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Nick Offerman, who announced some of the more well-known recipients of the Webby Award. These include celebrities like Jessica Alba, Krysten Ritter, Lena Dunham, and The Onion, to name a few. About midway through the ceremony, 10-12 videos were selected to be shown on the big screen to a room of more than 1,000 attendees. We were thrilled that our video was showcased during this time! You can watch the full Webby Award Ceremony in the video below, and see the recording of our speech at the 45:02 mark.
I would like to thank the World Community Grid volunteers who voted for us and those who submitted their suggestions for the speech. It was a great honor to see the important work we all do for science get recognized. We share this award with all of you.

All new models can now be run on Macs
26th May 2016
It has been a long time coming but finally our newest models, weather@home2, can also be run on macs as well as linux and windows operating systems.
We would like to thank all mac using participants for their patience and hope that you will enthusiastically move away from Australia only simulations to help us simulate all other weather@home regions.

Server issues
25 May 2016, 8:05:37 UTC
Servers are again experiencing with free space issues. We need to move more data out so there will be no new work for one or two weeks and BOINC components will be disabled. Uploading results should work as the space will be freeing up. If there is enough space I will activate other BOINC components so that results could be validated.

Server Maintanence
24 May 2016, 15:14:01 UTC
Hey Everyone,
We will be doing some server maintenance over the next day or two. This should not affect work unit generation, but the website may run slow or be down for short periods of time. Feel free to report any issues you notice by replying to this post.
We plan on rolling out HTTPS support for the site (I know we are a bit behind the times on this) and updating all of the BOINC libraries on the server (so maybe expanded GPU support) over the next couple days.
As usual with updates, we expect things to be a bit bumpy for the next couple days, please bear with us while we work through everything.
Thanks for your continued support.
Jake W.

22 May 2016 | 18:13:46 UTC
On 16 May 2016, 07:12:37 UTC, PrimeGrid’s PPS Mega Prime Search project found the Mega Prime:
373*2^3404702+1
The prime is 1,024,921 digits long and enters Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database ranked 152nd overall.
The discovery was made by Seonghwan Kim (ext2097) of South Korea using an Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1231 v3 @ 3.40GHz with 4GB RAM, running Linux. This computer took about 56 minutes to complete the primality test using LLR. Seonghwan is a member of the SETIKAH@KOREA team.
The prime was verified on 17 May 2016, 01:25:38 UTC, by Bob Bussard (RGB) of Canada using an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz with 8GB RAM, running Microsoft Windows 8.1. This computer took about 3 hours 39 minutes to complete the primality test using LLR.
For more details, please see the official announcement.
